Most of us have known someone (inside or outside
the music world) who has experienced depression or another mental
health problem. And you may know that many of these people – especially
teens and young adults -- don’t get the help they need, often
because of the shame attached to mental health issues. The result
for many is suicide, which claims 30,000 lives each year in the
U.S.
mpower is trying to do something about that by reaching
out to young people about mental health through the music community
at concerts, on the Internet and, with your help, through radio.
We have created a series of public service announcements
for radio stations featuring Michelle Branch, Vanessa Carlton, Third
Eye Blind, Dar Williams and Dakona. Through the words and lyrics
of these musicians, we hope to reach millions of young people with
a hopeful message about overcoming depression and other problems
in their lives. By airing the ads, you can help out with this cause
and possibly save lives.
