1. What role has music played in your own mental health and well-being?
Besides the breath of life giving to me by Jah, music is
the next best thing. There is not a day that goes by that I don't
spend at least eight hours consumed in it. That would involve
writing, listening to other artist, studio sessions, or rehearsing
for live shows. Music/writing has been the outlet that has
allowed me the freedom to explore, get to know,
and express myself. Music is a beautiful thing and because
of it's variety is fitting no matter the mood. In short, I
love it. To borrow some words from India.Aire, " I can't
live a day without music."
2. What songs or lyrics have guided you though difficult times?
There have been so many artists, songs, lyrics that have nurtured
me through challenging times. I would have to say that the work
of 2Pac, Bob Marley, Sade, and India.Aire, among many others have guided
me through these times. As far as particular songs go, I would
have to mention, " Closer", by Goapele, " With my own
two hands" by Ben Harper, and " I see God in you" by
India.Aire. This would be the short list. But in all honesty,
I would have to say that my own music has played the biggest
role in the healing me during such times.
3. What do you hope your music can do for young people who are going
though difficult times?
I hope my music will not only educate the listener,
but inspire young people to love themselves, believe in themselves, and
follow their
passions.
4.Why are you getting involved with mpower?
I feel very honored to be part of this support group. Any
organization that exist for the purpose of uplifting the life of
others, especially our future has to be commended. The nurturing
of our young is so crucial, and it brings joy to me to be involved.
